Terms and Conditions (the “TERMS AND CONDITIONS”)
Please read these Terms and Conditions carefully.
BY SUBMITTING AN ENTRY TO OR PARTICIPATING IN THE TANGERINE ELEVATOR PITCH COMPETITION (THE “COMPETITION”), THE COMPETITION ENTRANT (AS DEFINED BELOW) AGREES TO BE BOUND BY THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS AND THE DECISIONS OF TANGERINE BANK ("TANGERINE"), WHICH ARE FINAL AND BINDING. WHERE A COMPETITION ENTRANT SUBMITS AN ENTRY ON BEHALF OF AN ELIGIBLE BUSINESS, THE COMPETITION ENTRANT CONFIRMS THAT THEY ARE AUTHORIZED TO REPRESENT AND BIND THAT ELIGIBLE BUSINESS.
1. SUBMISSION PERIOD
The Competition will take place from September 1, 2026 at 12:00:01 a.m. eastern time to September 23, 2026 at 5:59:59 p.m. eastern time (the “SUBMISSION PERIOD”). Tangerine reserves the right to extend, shorten, suspend, cancel or modify the Submission Period in its sole discretion, subject to applicable law.
2. COMPETITION ADMINISTRATOR
Tangerine is responsible for administering the Competition. Tangerine is responsible for receiving and reviewing entries, verifying eligibility, appointing judges, selecting the winner, awarding the prize, and interpreting and applying these Terms and Conditions. Tangerine may use its affiliates, employees, representatives, agents, vendors, judges or other third parties to help administer, promote, judge or operate the Competition; however, unless expressly stated otherwise, those parties are not sponsors of the Competition. All decisions of Tangerine regarding the Competition are final and binding, subject to applicable law.
3. COMPETITION ENTRANT
For the purposes of these Terms and Conditions, a "COMPETITION ENTRANT" means the individual who submits an Entry to the Competition, whether on their own behalf or on behalf of an Eligible Business. “ENTRY” means the complete submission made by or on behalf of an Eligible Business for the Competition, including the registration form, “ELIGIBLE PITCH” means a video pitch submitted by or on behalf of an eligible Competition Entrant during the Submission Period, is complete, truthful and responsive to the registration form requirements, complies with these Terms and Conditions, and meets the content requirements set out below., and any other information or materials required by Tangerine under these Terms and Conditions. "ELIGIBLE BUSINESS" means a lawful business operating in Canada, whether incorporated or unincorporated, including a sole proprietorship, partnership or corporation, that is identified in the Entry. Where the Competition Entrant submits an Entry on behalf of an Eligible Business, the Competition Entrant must be an owner, partial owner, operator, officer, director, employee, representative or other person authorized to represent and bind that Eligible Business. “ENTRANT COMPANY” means the business, company, organization or other legal entity identified in a Competition Entrant’s entry submission and on whose behalf the Competition Entrant participates in the Competition, if applicable.
4. ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible to enter the Competition and/or win the Prize (as defined in Section 10), the Competition Entrant must, at the time of Entry and at the time the Prize is awarded:
a. Be a legal resident of Ontario, have reached the age of majority in Ontario at the time of entry;
b. Be an Eligible Business that is represented by an individual who is a registered attendee of Elevate Toronto (“ELEVATE”) and who submits an entry on behalf of the business. Elevate Toronto means the technology and innovation festival/event held in Toronto, Ontario, at which the Winner will be announced. Proof of registration and authorization to represent the business may be required;
c. Be the owner (whether partially or fully), founder, operate, or duly authorized representative of an Eligible Business (defined below) that is incorporated, organized, or has its principal place of business in Ontario.
d. Submit an Eligible Pitch in accordance with these Terms and Conditions in Section 7;
e. Be in attendance at Elevate, in person, located at Meridian Hall, 1 Front St. E, Toronto, ON, on September 24, 2026 to be announced as the Winner.
Employees, officers, directors, representatives and agents of the Tangerine or its affiliates (including Scotiabank) and any prize supplier, and members of their immediate families or households, are not eligible to enter the Competition. An immediate family means a parent, sibling, child or spouse.
5. HOW TO ENTER
To participate in the Competition, you must complete both steps below:
a. Complete and submit a full registration form at https://www.tangerine.ca/en/personal/invest/elevator-pitch-registration, including your first name, last name, email address, phone number, business name, province or territory of residence, and any other required information.
b. Submit an Eligible Pitch (see section 7 of these Terms and Conditions for requirements) by one of the following methods:
• By email: send the Eligible Pitch video to tangerinebusiness@tangerine.ca;
o The email subject line should state: Elevate Pitch Competition, Your Company Name, and Your Name,
• In person: record the Eligible Pitch at the Tangerine activation booth at Elevate on September 22, 2026 or September 23, 2026 at 5:59 p.m.
6. REPRESENTATIONS AND WARRANTIES
By submitting an entry, the Competition Entrant represents and warrants to Tangerine and acknowledges that Tangerine is relying on such representations and warranties in acceptance of the entry into the Competition and consideration of a prize, that:
(a) the Competition Entrant, on behalf of the company, has full power, authority and capacity to agree to these Terms and Conditions and to perform the obligations and grant the rights and releases under these Terms and Conditions;
(b) the Entry and Eligible Pitch are original to the Competition Entrant and do not infringe, misappropriate or violate any intellectual property, privacy, publicity, contractual or other rights of any third party;
(c) no consent of any other person is required for the submission of the Entry and Eligible Pitch to Tangerine and participation in the Competition;
(d) the submission of the Entry and Eligible Pitch to Tangerine will not constitute a breach of or default under any agreement to which the entrant or the company is a party, or any breach of confidentiality or intellectual property of a third party; and
(e) The Competition Entrant has not been served with, and is not party to, any litigation matters which are the subject of the entrants to the Competition.
7. ELIGIBLE PITCH REQUIREMENTS
To qualify as an Eligible Pitch, the submission must meet the following requirements:
a. The Eligible Pitch to the Competition must be a 60-second video from the Competition Entrant (no co-contributors permitted) answering the prompt "What would CDN $50,000 mean to your business today?”
o Eligible Pitch must contain the criteria outlined in Section 8 of these Terms and Conditions.
b. must be original, created by or on behalf of the Competition Entrant, and must not be plagiarized, copied, or substantially derived from any third-party content;
c. must not infringe, misappropriate or otherwise violate any intellectual property, privacy, publicity, confidentiality, contractual or other rights of any person or entity;
d. must be submitted on behalf of a single Competition Entrant, and the Competition Entrant must have all necessary rights and authority with respect to the content of the application submission;
e. must not contain content that: is inappropriate, offensive or indecent including profanity, nudity, or sexual content; promotes racism, hatred, violence or harm against any living creature, individual or group; promotes discrimination based on gender, race, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation, age or any other prohibited ground; or promotes the use of alcohol, illegal drugs, tobacco, weapons, or illegal activities;
f. must not contain advertisements, personal or commercial solicitations, or promote any political agenda or party;
g. must not contain names, likenesses, photos or other information about an identifiable individual, including without limitation celebrities and/or other public or private figures, living or dead, without express written permission from the person(s) (or their estate);
h. must be in keeping with Tangerine’s image and not contain any material that could reflect negatively on the name, reputation or goodwill of Tangerine, its subsidiaries or affiliates, in Tangerine’s sole discretion; and
i. must not violate or encourage the violation of any law, rule or regulation.
Tangerine reserves the right to disqualify any entry which, in its sole discretion, deems to be inappropriate or unsuitable.
Providing the Competition Entrant meets the eligibility criteria above and has successfully submitted its entry during the Submission Period, the entry becomes a Qualified Entry.
Tangerine will not accept any responsibility for late, lost, delayed, corrupted, illegible or incomplete submissions, which shall be disqualified at the sole discretion of Tangerine without any right of appeal.
8. SELECTION PROCESS
Following the end of the Submission Period, a panel of judges selected by Tangerine will evaluate based on the judging criteria below.
The panel will select one (1) winner (the “WINNER”) from among all qualified entries based on the following judging criteria:
a. Storytelling: how clearly, authentically and compellingly the pitch communicates the business story and explains what CDN $50,000 could make possible for the business;
b. Community impact: the potential for the business and the proposed use of the Prize to create a positive and meaningful impact in its community;
c. Business creativity: the originality, inventiveness and resourcefulness of the business idea and proposed use of the Prize.
The judging criteria will be considered by the judges in their discretion. The judges are not required to assign weights to each criterion, and the selection of the Winner will be based on the judges’ overall assessment of the Qualified Entries against the criteria.
The Winner will be contacted by telephone on September 23, 2026, between 8:00 – 10:00 PM, using the contact information provided in the Entry. The Winner must respond within six (6) hours of Tangerine's first contact attempt. Tangerine may make more than one attempt but is not required to do so.
9. WINNER ANNOUNCEMENT
The Winner will be publicly announced at Elevate located at Meridian Hall, 1 Front Street, Toronto, ON, on September 24, 2026, subject to verification and compliance with these Terms and Conditions.
If the Winner does not return the call within the six (6) hours period, cannot be verified, cannot attend Elevate on September 24, 2026, refuses the Prize, does not sign the Winner Declaration and Release (the “RELEASE”), or does not comply with these Terms and Conditions, the Winner may be disqualified and an alternate Winner may be selected based on the judging results, subject to applicable law.
Before being declared the Winner, the Winner is required to sign and return, within the timeframe specified by Tangerine, the Release as well as any other documentation reasonably required by Tangerine.
Tangerine reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any Competition Entrant who violates these Terms and Conditions. The decisions of the judging panel and Tangerine are final and binding and are not subject to appeal.
10. PRIZE
One (1) prize of CDN $50,000.00 will be awarded (the “PRIZE”), paid by cheque to the Eligible Business, following verification of the Eligible Business and the Competition Entrant's authority to represent it. The Prize must be accepted as awarded, is not transferable or assignable and may not be substituted or exchanged, except at Tangerine's discretion.
The Winner is solely responsible for all costs, fees, and incurred expenses for attending Elevate. Tangerine will not be responsible for, and will not reimburse, any costs, expenses, fees, or other amounts incurred by a participant or finalist in connection with attending Elevate, including transportation, accommodation, meals, parking, incidentals, or any other related expenses, unless expressly stated otherwise by Tangerine in writing.
11. GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS
11.1. Elevate Attendance Acknowledgement.
Participation in the Competition requires attendance at Elevate; however, attendance at Elevate does not guarantee selection as a finalist, winning the Competition, or receiving any Prize. Attendance at Elevate is voluntary and at the participant's sole discretion and expense. The event is organized and operated by Elevate Toronto and is subject to its own terms, conditions, policies, and requirements. Tangerine is not the organizer, sponsor, operator, or administrator of the event and is not responsible for the event, its content, operations, cancellation, postponement, venue conditions, or any acts, omissions, losses, damages, injuries, costs, or expenses arising from or related to attendance at the event.
11.2. Verification of Entries.
The validity of any entry is subject to verification by Tangerine. Any illegible, incomplete or fraudulent entry will be rejected. Any Competition Entrant or any individual who enters or attempts to enter the Competition in a manner which is contrary to these Terms or Conditions or by its nature is unjust to other Competition Entrants, will be rejected. All decisions of Tangerine with respect to any aspect of the Competition, including the eligibility or disqualification of Competition Entrants, are final and binding, without right of appeal. If a dispute arises regarding who submitted an entry, the entry will be deemed to be submitted by the authorized account holder of the email address provided at time of entry. Authorized account holder is defined as the natural person who is assigned to an email address by an Internet access or online service provider, or other organization responsible for assigning email addresses for the domain associated with the submitted email address.
11.3. Acceptance of Prize.
Except at the discretion of Tangerine, the Prize is non-transferable and must be accepted as awarded and cannot be substituted for another item or exchanged.
11.4. Substitution of Prize.
If for any reason Tangerine is unable to award a Prize, or a portion of a Prize, as described in these Terms and Conditions, Tangerine reserves the right at its sole discretion to award a prize of equivalent value. In the event that a Prize winner is unable to redeem any or all of a Prize, due to reasons beyond the control of Tangerine, its employees, representatives, agents, and all parties associated with this Competition, no compensation or substitution prize will be provided. Any costs or expenses incurred by Prize winners in claiming or using their Prizes will be their responsibility.
11.5. Release and Exclusion of Liability - General.
By participating in this Competition, the entrant company and their employees Release and hold harmless Tangerine and its respective parent companies, affiliates, and subsidiaries, and each of their directors, officers, employees, agents, mandataries, and advertising and promotional agencies affiliated with this Competition, participating establishments and any judges from any liability, claims, actions, injury, loss, or damage of any kind, including, but not limited to, illness, personal injury or death, resulting, directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, from participating in this Competition or from the acceptance, possession, or use or misuse of the Prize or any portion thereof (including any travel/activity related thereto). This limitation of liability is a comprehensive limitation of liability that applies to all damages of any kind, including without limitation compensatory, direct, indirect, consequential or punitive damages; loss of data, income or profit; loss of damage to property; breach of confidentiality or privacy rights; and claims of third parties.
11.6. Exclusion of Liability – Network Errors.
Tangerine shall not be responsible for any failure of email or the Competition website or for any problems or technical malfunction of a telephone network or lines, computer on-line systems, servers, access providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any email, on-line, or Internet entry to be received by Tangerine. In addition, Tangerine shall not be responsible for technical problems, traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website, or any combination thereof including any injury or damage to an entrant's or any other person’s computer or property related to or resulting from downloading any material in Competition. Tangerine reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to cancel, suspend, extend or modify this Competition without notice, obligation or liability if in Tangerine’s opinion there is any suspected or actual evidence of tampering with any portion of the Competition, or if virus, bugs, non-authorized human intervention, force majeure or other causes corrupt or impair the administration, security, fairness, or integrity and proper administration of the Competition, or for any other reason in Tangerine’s sole discretion, including insufficient entries. In such case, Tangerine may select the Winner from all eligible entries received prior to and/or after (if appropriate) the action taken by Tangerine. Any attempt to deliberately damage any website or to undermine the legitimate operation of this Competition may be a violation of criminal and civil laws, and should such an attempt be made, Tangerine reserves the right to seek remedies and damages to the fullest extent permitted by law.
11.7. Exclusion of Liability – Prizes.
Tangerine shall not be responsible in any way for the use of or bear any liability whatsoever in any way attributable to, the Prizes awarded in this Competition or the events forming part of this Competition, including but not limited to typographical or other errors in the offer or administration of this Competition, these Terms and Conditions, the selection and announcement of winners or the distribution of the Prizes. Tangerine and its affiliates, and their respective officers, directors, partners, partnerships, principals, representatives, agents, licensees, successors and assigns (i) make no warranty, guaranty or representation of any kind concerning the Prizes, (ii) disclaim any implied warranty or condition, and (iii) are not liable for injury, loss, or damage of any kind resulting from the acceptance, use or misuse of the Prizes, travel related thereto or otherwise from participation in this Competition.
11.8. Taxes, Fees, and Costs.
Each Winner is solely responsible for all costs, expenses, taxes, reporting obligations, and any other obligations associated with accepting or using the Prize. Tangerine does not provide tax, legal, accounting or financial advice regarding the Prize.
11.9. Publicity, Video, Social Media.
By entering the Competition, the Entrant Company, Competition Entrant and any individual participating on its behalf (collectively, the “RELEASEES”) consent to being photographed, filmed, audio recorded, video recorded, livestreamed or otherwise recorded in connection with the Competition. The Releasees authorizes Tangerine and their respective affiliates, agents and representatives to use, reproduce, publish, display, distribute and communicate the Releasees' name, business name, image, likeness, voice, statements, Competition submission, pitch presentation and participation in the Competition for promotional, advertising, marketing, publicity, communications, social media and related purposes, in any media now known or hereafter developed, worldwide and in perpetuity, without further notice, compensation or permission, except where prohibited by law.
11.10. Video Ownership.
The Competition Entrant or Entrant Company, as the case may be, retains ownership of the Eligible Pitch.
11.11. Competition License.
By entering, the Competition Entrant and Entrant Company grant Tangerine and its service providers a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to access, store, reproduce and share the Eligible Pitch solely to administer, evaluate and judge the Competition, verify eligibility, and fulfil the Prize, as well as for promotional and advertising purposes and for recaps and replays of the Competition.
11.12. Retention.
Eligible Pitches will be retained only as long as reasonably necessary and will be deleted within 30 days after the winner announcement, subject to any legal or regulatory retention requirement.
11.13. Conflict.
In the event of any inconsistency between these Terms and Conditions and any statements or disclosures contained in any Competition-related materials, including but not limited to, any entry registration forms or television, print, online or other advertising or promotional materials, these Terms and Conditions shall prevail.
11.14. Governing Law.
This Competition is subject to all applicable federal, provincial and municipal laws. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Terms and Conditions, or the rights and obligations of the entrant and Tangerine in connection with the Competition, will be governed by and construed and enforced in accordance with the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein. All entrants consent to the exclusive jurisdiction and venue of the courts located in the Province of Ontario, unless otherwise required by applicable law.
11.15. Privacy.
Personal information collected by Tangerine in connection with the Competition, including a Competition Entrant’s name, contact information, business information, video submission, and any other information provided as part of an entry, will be collected, used and disclosed by Tangerine and its service providers for the purposes of administering the Competition, verifying eligibility, evaluating and judging submissions, communicating with Competition Entrants, selecting and announcing the Winner, awarding and fulfilling the Prize, and as otherwise described in these Terms and Conditions or required by law. By participating in the Competition, each Competition Entrant consents to such collection, use and disclosure of their personal information for the foregoing purposes.
