Losing a loved one is never easy. We’re here to provide guidance and support as you navigate the path ahead.
Being named the Executor of an estate is a big responsibility that can sometimes feel overwhelming. Here you’ll discover how the process works, important documents to gather and questions you may have.
Here’s what you can expect
If you’re the Executor, Court-Appointed Administrator, or Authorized Representative of an estate, give us a call at 1-888-826-4374. We’ll ask for your communication preference (phone or email). Using your preferred method, an Estates Manager will then follow up within 2 business days.
Your Estates Manager will let you know what documents are required to move forward and how to submit.
Once all the required documents are received, we’ll do a thorough review within 10-15 business days. After review, the time it will take for settlement can vary depending on the complexity.
Here’s a list of document your Estates Manager may ask for
Your name(s), address, phone number and Client Number (if applicable)
- Name, address, phone number, date of birth and date of death of the deceased
- Original or notarized copy of proof of death, this can be a Death - Certificate, physicians statement of death, etc.
- Original or notarized copy of the Will or probated Will
- Any bills or invoices like funeral or probate costs
No, we do not have estate or trust Accounts. For Accounts without a successor or beneficiary, we issue funds payable to the ‘estate of’ and the estate’s financial institution helps to consolidate funds.
Tangerine may be able to release funds from the deceased Client’s Tangerine Account(s) to help with funeral costs or probate fees.
If the next of kin is not applying for probate, we’ll send you a letter of indemnity that may need to be notarized, once we receive the letter back, we’ll issue funds payable to the ‘estate of’.
To apply for probate, please contact the provincial government in your jurisdiction with the Death Certificate and required forms or speak to an estate lawyer.
