What is Cheque-In™?

Cheque-In is a feature of our Mobile Banking app that you can use to deposit cheques instantly using your smartphone or tablet. In a few simple steps, you can capture the cheque image, deposit it, and begin earning interest.

What devices are compatible with the Cheque-In feature?

  • Apple iPhones®, iPads® and iPod touch® devices (iOS 8.0 and above)

  • AndroidTM smartphones and tablets (4.4 and above)


Aside from the above devices, Cheque-In should work on any smartphone or tablet device capable of downloading the most current version of the Tangerine Mobile Banking app.

What are the benefits of using Cheque-In?

With Cheque-In, you can enjoy the convenience of making deposits whenever you choose, and your deposits start earning interest right away. You won't need to mail in cheques or take them to an ABM, which will save you time and money.

What are the requirements for using Cheque-In?

You need a compatible smartphone or tablet with the latest version of the Tangerine Mobile Banking app. Once you download the app, you'll need to agree to the Terms and Conditions for using Cheque-In, which will display before you make a deposit.

Once I've downloaded the Tangerine Mobile Banking app, where can I find the Cheque-In feature?

As soon as you log into the Tangerine Mobile Banking app, you have access to Cheque-In. Click the 'Deposit' button at the bottom of the screen to get started.

How does Cheque-In work?

With Cheque-In, you can deposit cheques by simply taking photos of both the front and back of your cheque, selecting your Account and entering the deposit amount. Once you verify the cheque deposit details and submit your deposit, the money will be in your Account right away. (Normal hold policies will apply.)

Which of my Accounts can I deposit cheques into using Cheque-In?

Cheque-In is available for deposits into your Savings Account, RSP Savings Account, Tax-Free Savings Account, Tangerine Chequing Account and Business Savings Account.

What type of cheques can I deposit with Cheque-In?

Only Canadian-currency cheques can be deposited using the Cheque-In feature. Your cheques must be payable to you directly and drawn on a Canadian financial institution.

When will money deposited through Cheque-In be available for me to use?

Cheques deposited through Cheque-In will be in your Account earning interest from the moment you get the deposit confirmation email. However, this does not necessarily mean that Tangerine has accepted the cheque for deposit. Tangerine reserves the right to reject a cheque for deposit if the cheque and/or image does not meet the proper requirements. Cheque funds will be released for use as per your existing cheque hold policy, which may be up to 5 business days in some cases.

What type of confirmation will I get when my Cheque-In deposit is complete?

We'll send you a 'Deposit Received' email once we receive your submitted deposit, and another follow-up email instructing you to destroy the cheque if all the proper requirements have been satisfied (typically 5 business days after your deposit).

Do I need to endorse a cheque before depositing via Cheque-In?

No, you don't need to endorse the cheque before depositing it through Cheque-In. You confirm your identity by logging into your Tangerine Mobile Banking app.

What are some reasons that my Cheque-In deposit could be rejected?

Some of the most common reasons why a Cheque-In deposit might not be accepted are:

  • The image of the front or back of the cheque is blurred.

  • The amount you entered does not match the amount on the cheque.

  • The cheque deposit is a duplicate request.

Can I view my history of deposits made through Cheque-In?

Yes, you will be able to see your previous Cheque-In deposits in your Account History.

For how long should I keep the actual cheque after depositing it through Cheque-In?

After you have deposited a cheque, we will send you a deposit confirmation email asking you to keep the cheque in a safe and secure place until we can verify that all the proper requirements have been satisfied. Once verified, we'll send you an email asking you to destroy the cheque. This is typically sent 5 business days after your deposit is submitted. To ensure that you don't accidentally deposit the same cheque twice, please mark “Electronically Submitted” or “VOID” on the cheque after your deposit, and keep it in a safe place until we send you the email asking to destroy the cheque.

What are some tips for taking clear pictures of my cheque?

  • Place the cheque in a well-lit area on a flat and dark background

  • Make sure the four corners of the cheque are within the frame

  • Avoid shadows on the cheque

How will I know if my Cheque-In deposit is accepted?

Once your deposit is accepted, a confirmation screen will show up after the last step of the Cheque-In deposit process. You'll see your transaction details and you'll get a deposit confirmation number.

However, this does not necessarily mean that Tangerine has accepted the cheque for deposit. Tangerine reserves the right to reject a cheque for deposit if the image does not meet the proper requirements.

Is there a limit to the number of cheques I can deposit using Cheque-In?

There are no limits to the number of cheques you can deposit using Cheque-In, as long as you don't exceed the daily, weekly or monthly deposit amount limits.

Can I do all of my banking on the Tangerine Mobile Banking app?

Yes, in addition to all of the cool features that come with the Mobile Banking app, like Touch ID and Cheque-In, for instance, you can also to all of your banking through the app just as you would online from your computer.
