How do I stop a payment from my Chequing Account?
A stop payment can be requested for a cheque or Pre-Authorized Payment (PAP) from your Tangerine Chequing Account that hasn’t been processed. We’ll make our best efforts to stop the payment, however, we can’t promise we’ll be able to catch it.
To request a one-time stop payment on a PAP:
1. You’ll need to contact your payee first. Your agreement should have details on how to cancel a pre-authorized payment.
2. If the payee has agreed to stop the payment, but is unable to reach it in time for the next payment:
• Log in and click your Chequing Account
• Select the most recent PAP from your Transactions
• Click the ‘Stop Next Payment’ button and follow the prompts
Please note that cancelling a PAP doesn’t cancel the contract with your payee or cancel the amount owed. This will only stop one payment. To stop or change the series of payments to a payee, you’ll need to contact them directly. You can have one stop payment in a year without a fee from us, and then it’s $12.50 per request. Remember though, you may be charged additional fees by your payee.
