Here’s how it works:

Receive a text & email from Tangerine when we spot a suspicious transaction

For your protection, we’ll decline the transaction and you’ll get an instant text alert from 826373 and an email from noreply@notifications.tangerine.ca (that’s how you’ll know it’s us).

Simply confirm or report the transaction

Text us back right away with a “Y” to confirm it was you. Or, if it wasn’t you, reply “N”, and immediately follow the instructions in our reply for your Account’s safety.

What are Tangerine suspicious spend alerts?

Your safety matters most. To help keep your money safe, we monitor your Credit Card transactions. If we notice a suspicious transaction on your Account, we’ll immediately text and email you to confirm the transaction.

 

If you verify the transaction, we'll notify you if the transaction is processed or if you're required to re-process the transaction. If you let us know the purchase attempt is fraudulent, we'll provide you next steps on how to contact us to investigate further.

 

In the case of fraud, we'll need to speak with you as soon as possible to make sure your other Accounts aren’t affected and to help you continue banking smoothly.

 

Alerts will always include:

  1. The last four digits of your Credit Card number
  2. Merchant name
  3. The transaction amount

Remember, our Fraud team may still call you in the event we need to follow up with you.

Does Tangerine have a feature to protect my credit card purchases?

Tangerine Clients who have a Tangerine Money-Back Credit Card or World Mastercard are automatically enrolled for Tangerine suspicious spend alerts.

 

If we have your most up to date mobile number and email address, you'll receive the alerts about suspicious transactions on your Credit Card Account.

 

Here's how to review or update your contact information:

 

On your mobile device:

  1. Select 'More' and tap 'Profile & Settings'
  2. Select 'General', then tap 'Basic Information' and edit your contact information.

Online:

  1. Click your name at the top right of the screen, and select 'Profile & Settings'
  2. Under 'Basic Information' click 'Edit' to update your contact information

 

Can I choose how I want to receive Tangerine suspicious spend alerts?

You may receive Tangerine suspicious spend alerts by text and email, depending on the contact information you've provided to Tangerine. For added peace of mind, we recommend having both your phone number and email up to date on your Account.

 

Important to know: The email notifies you of the alert, but you must reply to the text message we sent you to let us know if the transaction is valid.

Can I reply to Tangerine suspicious spend alerts by email?

You’ll get a text message and email from us. But you must reply to the text message we sent you to let us know if the transaction is valid - never by email.

What happens if I don’t respond to Tangerine suspicious spend alerts?

You should always respond as soon as you can to resolve any transactions we flag as potentially suspicious.

 

If you receive a Tangerine suspicious spend alerts and don't respond to the text, your Credit Card may be blocked until you respond.

 

Our Fraud team may still call you in the event we need to follow up with you.

Can I stop receiving Tangerine suspicious spend alerts?

While these alerts are an important tool to help keep your accounts safe, you can stop receiving the text alerts at any time.

 

You’ll get a text message and email from us. Just make sure your contact info is current.

 

To unsubscribe from Tangerine suspicious spend alerts, reply 'STOP' to the text message we sent you and you'll no longer receive these alerts by text from us. You will continue to receive email alerts from us.

 

Remember, our Fraud team may still call you in the event we need to follow up with you.

Will I be charged for Tangerine suspicious spend alerts?

These alerts are available at no additional cost for Tangerine Clients with a Money-Back Credit Card or World Mastercard. We won't charge you for receiving or responding to an alert.

 

Please note that you're responsible for any fees your wireless provider may charge, including roaming and standard messaging and data charges.

How can I confirm or update my contact information for Tangerine suspicious spend alerts?

If you've updated contact information on file with us, like your current mobile number or email address, we'll contact you, if necessary.

 

Here's how to review or update your contact information:

 

Online:

  1. Log in and click your name at the top corner of the screen. and select 'Profile & Settings'
  2. Under 'Basic Information' click 'Edit' to update your contact information.

How are Tangerine suspicious spend alerts different from Tangerine Orange Alerts?

Tangerine suspicious spend alerts are only for your Tangerine Credit Card. They let you confirm or block a suspicious transaction before it's processed.

 

Tangerine Orange Alerts keep you informed about activity in your Accounts and help you manage your money. They can be set up and customized to provide you with mobile and/or email notifications.

 

Both types of alerts are available to you at no charge and will help you stay informed and in control of any activity happening on your Accounts.

What happens if I confirm that the transaction is unauthorized?

You'll receive a text & email from Tangerine when we spot a suspicious transaction.

 

If it wasn’t you, respond right away to the text message we sent you with “N”, and immediately follow the instructions in our reply for your Account’s safety.

 

Remember, our Fraud team may still call you in the event we need to follow up with you.
