To open a bank account as a student, what does Tangerine need?
There are 2 ways you can complete identity confirmation to become a Client.
To confirm your identity online (i.e. digitally), you'll need a valid Government Issued Photo ID, which can be either:
- Canadian Driver's Licence
- Provincial/Territorial Photo ID Card
You may also be asked to upload a document as proof of your residency. It can be any one of these documents:
- A bank account or loan statement dated within the last 3 months
- A utility bill such as electricity, water, gas, phone or internet dated within the last 3 months
- A property tax assessment or waste management bill dated within the last year
- A registered account statement (RRSP/RSP, TFSA, RRIF/RIF) dated within the last 3 months

How do you choose a winner?
It’s completely random! When the contest ends, we’ll put all eligible entries in a massive digital box, shake them around, and pull out a potential winner for the $35,000 grand prize.

What kinds of deposits qualify to earn the $250
Only deposits categorized under the Canadian Payment Association code as payroll qualify, including Pension, Employment Insurance, Old Age Security, Canadian Pension Plan, Workers Compensation, Parental Assistance and Income Security Benefit. You can find a complete list in section 6 of the Full Offer Terms and Conditions. You need to deposit the full amount of your payroll direct deposits to qualify, and the payroll direct deposits need to total at least $200 per month. Make sure your first deposit is made within 60 days of your Account opening, and keep the deposits going for at least 2 months in a row.
How do I switch my payroll to my Tangerine Chequing Account
Your employer will need to have our Transit Number, which is 00152, and our Institution Number, which is 614. They’ll also need your Chequing Account Number, which you can find when you log in, select the Account and look under the Account details. If you need a void cheque or a direct deposit form, you can find instructions on how to get those here.
When will I get my $250
We’ll deposit the $250 in your Chequing Account in the month after you’ve had two consecutive months of payroll deposits.
